The Adelaide Dental School is excited to announce the 2019 International Dental and Oral Health Study Tour - Xin chào Vietnam! (Hello Vietnam). This study tour is open to 2nd & 4th year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students and 2nd & 3rd Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) students will be introduced to Indo-Pacific work, culture and society through an intensive overseas study tour to Vietnam (Hanoi).

The tour has a clinical placement component – students will be visiting Vietnamese dental hospitals, private clinics and schools and providing oral health promotion and education and simple dental treatments.

In addition, students will experience a range of cultural immersion experience activities, visits and briefings to understand the context within which they can frame their Clinical exposure.

Dates:

This program runs from 1 December to 14 December, 2019.

The program fee for this study tour is approximately AUD$2,950

Students must enroll in the following course DENT 2006EX - International Dental Clinical Practice: International Placement Vietnam. There are no additional tuition fees for enrolling in this course.



Financial Assistance

Eligible students may access up to AUD$8,149 from an OS-HELP loan.

Eligible students who are selected for this program will receive a grant of AUD$3,000 through the New Colombo Plan.

Comprehensive Travel insurance is provided free of charge by the University of Adelaide for students receiving credit for this program.

Please note that students may need to pay the program fee, international flights and accommodation costs up-front before financial assistance is processed by the University. Please review the Study Overseas website to check your eligibility to receive financial assistance. 




Eligibility

This program is open to 2nd & 4th year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students and 2nd & 3rd Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) students. Those students wishing to apply for OS-HELP must have completed at least 24 units which need to be recorded on their transcripts at the time of application and must have at least 3 units of study to complete on completion of this study tour.

The tour is limited to 22 students. Selection for this tour will be made based on a combination of GPA and responses to the ‘About Me’ questionnaire within the GLAS application.
 
  • Tour leader will shortlist applicants based on a combination of GPA and application responses.
 
  • The Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences will conduct a degree check for each shortlisted student and approve the student for credit. This is an automatic internal process and students do not have to take any action for this to occur.
 
  • After the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences has completed the degree check, students will be notified of their application outcome by Study Overseas.
 
  • Students will be required to pay an AUD$500 deposit within 14 days of their selection for this program.



Academic Credit

Once selected for the program, students must enroll in DENT 2006EX - International Dental Clinical Practice: International Placement Vietnam.

Students selected for this program will receive a Non Graded pass on successful completion.

  • Students will be merit-selected for this program. Applications will be assessed on the following:
    • Applicant’s answers to the ‘About Me’ Questionnaire in their GLAS application
    • Applicant’s GPA
    • Relevant courses that the applicant has already completed (as specified on the applicant’s University transcript)
