Applications have closed for this program. The details listed below are for information only and may be subject to change in 2021. Applications for the January 2021 intake of this program are expected to open in July 2020.

The University of Stuttgart Winter University, run during January and February each year, is an opportunity for students to experience total immersion in the German language and culture in the heart of Europe. The program is intended for any students who have completed at least 12 units of study and who have an interest in the German language, from absolute beginners through to advanced-level students.

Limited to 12 eligible University of Adelaide students, students will be selected for a place in this program under the Adelaide-Stuttgart exchange agreement, and may be able to receive OS-Help funding if crediting the program to a Bachelor degree. Program Dates

This program takes place from 11 January to 21 February, 2020.

Applications and Deadlines

1. Students must submit their initial application (via GLAS) to Study Overseas before 30 September, 2019.

2. Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis. Applications may close before the above deadline if 12 students are approved by the Faculty of Arts to participate in the program.

3. Students will be required to complete a subsequent application to the University of Stuttgart and return it to Study Overseas before 04 October, 2019.This application form will be emailed to students following confirmation of their Faculty Approval.

4. Study Overseas will nominate 12 selected students to the University of Stuttgart.

Students are advised not to book flights until Faculty approval has been confirmed and formal acceptance from the University of Stuttgart has been received.

Program Costs and Finances

The program fee for the University of Stuttgart Winter University is 1,200€. This fee includes home stay housing while attending Winter University, unlimited public transport in the greater Stuttgart area (Bus, Subway and Underground), excursions and program administration costs.

Students will need to cover their own airfares, meals and general living expenses.

Students will also be required to enrol in either GERM 2021 or GERM 3021 (as advised by your academic Faculty). Students are responsible for checking any prerequisite requirements for the enrolled course. Application fees and tuition fees will be waived at the University of Stuttgart for nominated students. However, students will be liable for the appropriate tuition/HECS payments at the University of Adelaide in addition to the overseas program fee at the University of Stuttgart.

Financial Assistance

Eligible students may also access up to AU $6,791 of funding from an OS-Help loan.

Undergraduate students within the Faculty of Arts are also encouraged to apply for the Schulz Scholarship in German and should consult the scholarship page for further information.

Comprehensive travel insurance is provided free of charge by the University of Adelaide for students receiving credit for this program.

Credit and Enrollment

Students will enroll in GERM 2021 or GERM 3021 during the summer term at Adelaide, and eligible students will receive 3 units of credit toward their program of study. Students are responsible for checking any prerequisite requirements for the enrolled course.
