Program Description:

Vietnam 2020

Spend your Dean’s Elective in one of Asia’s most vibrant cities, marvellous Hanoi!

Six AU $3,000 New Colombo Plan (NCP) mobility grants are available for eligible students towards the cost of the placements.

Based in Hanoi, this Dean’s Elective places you in one of a number of large teaching hospitals and allows you to choose from a variety of disciplines. The hospitals are often national centres of excellence in many disciplines and so you will work alongside some of the country’s leading medical staff. The hospitals are some of the best in Vietnam but often very different from Australian clinical settings in western settings.
Being placed in such culturally distant settings is a great education and perspective in the practice and ethics of medicine overseas. The hospitals also value the interaction with western students and the supervisors and local students may also learn much from you assisting with patient care and management while increasing your clinical skills and even learning something of traditional medicine.

Accommodation in Hanoi is in shared townhouses which cater for around 12 students with a housekeeper coming in to cook meals. The houses are central and communal, a great base for the placement and exploring the city and beyond. Hanoi is a melting pot of colonial French style, the imposing legacy of a communist regime and a rapidly developing 21st century city. All this surrounded by the hustle and excitement of a very busy Asian city; from the swarms of scooters zipping around every street to the markets of the Old Quarter.
With a thriving student culture on top of the fascinating traditional ways, some of the best food you will find anywhere and incredible sights such as Halong Bay to explore at the weekends, Hanoi is a must visit destination.

Fully supported by Projects Abroad, your placement arrangements, accommodation and meals, in-county transport, airport transfers are included in the program fee.  Projects Abroad will also provide 24/7 access to in-country support staff and comprehensive pre-departure support.

To be considered for a funded place on the program, students must a) meet New Colombo plan eligibility requirements b) apply for this program to the University of Adelaide May 27, 2019 c) apply directly to Projects Abroad once the student is made aware of their successful application.
