Program Description:
UK Law

The International Study Tour to the Queen Mary University of London, will be hosted by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies. The program is designed to acquaint students with the public and private law of UK. It will involve modules taught by leading experts in their fields and will include visits to the legislative, judicial and executive branches of government as well as law firms and other community organisations.

Students will be expected to actively engage in the learning program and maintain a reflective journal, the major assessment will be a comparative research paper.



This program runs from 1 February to 15 February, 2020.

The advertised dates of this program are indicative only and may be subject to change. The Faculty governing this study tour will confirm exact program dates once students have been selected for the program.

Students will be required to attend a pre-departure session on Friday 24 January from 10AM to 12PM in room 113, Ligertwood Bld to finalise plans, ensure students understand expectations and are appropriately prepared for the trip.

Meals and in country ground transports costs will be the responsibility of the students. 

Students must enrol into the course LAW 3538 and the usual tuition fees do apply in addition to the study tour program fee listed above.

Financial Assistance

Eligible students may access up to AU$6,791 from an OS-HELP loan. Please review the Study Overseas website to check your eligibility to receive OS-HELP and how to apply. Please note that OS-HELP loans can only be processed once students have submitted their loan application forms and have met all eligibility requirements. Once processed, it can take 3-4 weeks for students to receive the funding.

Comprehensive travel insurance is provided free of charge by the University of Adelaide for students receiving credit for this program.

Eligibility and Selection:

This program is open to students in second (or subsequent) year students who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws. Those students wishing to apply for OS-HELP must have completed at least 24 units which need to be recorded on their transcripts at the time of application and must have at least 3 units of study to complete on completion of this study tour.

The tour is limited to 30 students. Selection for this tour will be made based on a combination of GPA and responses to the ‘About Me’ questionnaire within the GLAS application, final selection will be based on a competitive interview process.

  • Tour leader will shortlist applicants based on a combination of GPA and application responses.
  • The School of Law will conduct a degree check for each shortlisted student and approve the student for credit. This is an automatic internal process and students do not have to take any action for this to occur.
  • After the School of Law has completed the degree check, and shortlisting has been completed, students will be notified of their application outcome by the School of Law and interviews will be scheduled.
  • A decision will be made within 7 days of the final interview and students will be notified accordingly.

Academic Credit

Once selected for the program, students must enrol in LAW 3538. Students selected for this program will receive 3 units of credit.

Please note that the usual tuition fees still apply for the enrolled course, in addition to the program fee listed above.

  • Students will be merit-selected for this program. Applications will be assessed on the following:
    • Applicant’s answers to the ‘About Me’ Questionnaire in their GLAS application
    • Applicant’s GPA
    • Relevant courses that the applicant has already completed (as specified on the applicant’s University transcript)
